Mobile Advertising Marketing:
Mobile Phone Tracking of Your Business

Mobile advertising marketing is using the power of mobile phone tracking as a tool to build a new business.

Here is how you can use it in your business:

Mobile Advertising Marketing with Digital Screens

"Ads on cellphones and digital signs that can be activated by consumers are part of the rapidly expanding business of mobile marketing"
Claire Atkinson, "Network of TVs Talks to Cellphones and Trades Clips for Advertising", New York Times, Monday, February 25, 2008, page C5

The New York Times had an article about a company called Akoo. Akoo is a company that is setting up a network of digital screens that can interact with your cell phone thru their m-Venue product. M-Venue allows the digital screens to send and receive text messages when the user is in proximity to the screens. So the cell phone can act like a universal remote control for on-demand content from those screens.

These screens would be in proximity to airports, bars, and restaurants. So the cell phone user can select music, sports, or fashion from their cell phone. The content can then be viewed on the cell phone or the digital screen. Revenue is expected to grow from $1.5 billion in 2007 to $2.6 billion in 2010.

"Akoo...is different because it allows consumers to control content on digital advertising screens to see something they choose."
Niko Drakoulis, CEO, Akoo International
Claire Atkinson, "Network of TVs Talks to Cellphones and Trades Clips for Advertising", New York Times, Monday, February 25, 2008, page C5

Not satisfied with other digital screens? In late 2008 a Pico projector will become available. A Pico projector will allow you to project images from your cell phone to a large screen. This projector will be built into a cell phone. So you can do a presentation directly from your cell phone for others to see.

Mobile Advertising Marketing using GPS cell phone tracking

"Mobile location tracking is starting to pop up in everyday business uses, and companies that push ahead now could grab a powerful advantage with what, in just a couple of years, should be a commonplace tool on mobile phones."
Marianne Kolbasuk McGee, "Track This", InformationWeek, February 11, 2008, page 37

What is GPS cell phone tracking? How can GPS cell phone tracking benefit your business?

GPS cell phone tracking is using the power of mobile phone tracking to build a new business. There are three ways to use GPS cell phone tracking:

1. Location based marketing-->The consumer receives information she has requested that would benefit her use of a product or system. One example of this is Papa John's pizza. Papa John's pizza allows consumers to order products online. Then the consumer can track the exact location of the pizza driver on her computer based on GPS tracking.

2. GPS employee mapping-->This is knowing where your employees are at all times and helping them go where they need to go. A business that is very mobile, like transportation, can send directions to drivers and track the location of drivers. Reports can be generated that can help the business owner in managing the transportation of products and services.

3. Localized search related advertising-->This is where the consumer receives text messages based on the location of the consumer. The text messages could be the weather, traffic alerts, or ads for products in the vicinity of the consumer.

How does GPS cell phone tracking work?

"Location systems generally take one of two approaches to pinpointing location."
Frank Bulk, "Ekahau Bets On Smart Tags", InformationWeek, February 11, 2008, page 47

1. Tag-centric (associated) mode-->This is like passive homing. The system reads the environment and then sends a signal to a relay station. This is two-way communications.

2. Beaconing mode-->This is like active homing or the sending of a ping at specified intervals of time. Systems interpret the data and specify the location of the gps handheld system.

Should a business consider mobile advertising marketing in its business strategy?

"Location-aware applications offer greater productivity to many workers, but any business looking to capitalize on this technology must focus on two factors: how the business can integrate location into its mobile strategies, and which applications make the most sense for location"
Stephen Wellman, "Over The Air, Key Questions About Location", InformationWeek, February 11, 2008, page 39

Code scan your cell phone

Another way to use mobile advertising marketing is by code scanning your cell phone.

What is code scanning your cell phone?

The magazine NetworkWorld was looking for easy ways for users to interact with them. NetworkWorld teamed up with NextCodeCorp to offer a 2 dimensional barcode to their magazine. Some models of cell phones can take a picture of that code with the camera in the phone. The user can then send and receive information online almost instantaneously from NetworkWorld. Code scanning has so much potential with mobile advertising marketing by using the cell phone as part of the customer relationship.

Future Possibilities of Your Cell Phone

Voice activated controls and faster browsers are coming. You will also have the capability to send live video feeds online, view footage from a remote camera, and use 3D maps. The cell phone is definitely a tool that can be used for business!
