Blog Definition
"A blog is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order...Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs,
web pages, and other media related to its topic"
Wikipedia
Think of the blog as a web log or journal of entries online.
Why should you learn how to create a blog? Creating a blog allows the blogger to build relationships with others by providing high quality content to share with subscribers.
Bloggers provide their customers with news, content, and updated information.
Types of Blogs
1. RSS Feed File-When a blog is created it becomes part of an RSS Feed File. This file contains web entries that are created by the user. When you subscribe to a blog you are subscribing to an RSS Feed that is part of the RSS Common Feed File. Updates to the file are sent to subscribers of the file.
2. Site Blog-This is a blog that sends updates or changes to a web site to subscribers of the blog. So the subscribers don't miss any changes to a web site. They are informed of the change via the Site Blog. Some site blogs also have the capability to send small snippets of messages to users. These mini
blogs are called bloglets. The bloglets allow the blogger to promote part of their business or web site. The bloglets can also be used as news updates. When users receive a blog they also receive a link to a full web page or bloglet destination. This link is called a Permalink. The Permalink directs the reader of the blog to more information.
3. Full Blog-This is a continuous daily documentation of news and information that is distributed more often then a Site Blog. These are shorter, more time sensitive posts. Some of these full blogs are created as a hobby instead of for business purposes. The full blogger pays for a domain name and hosting.
RSS Distribution
Blogs are distributed via RSS. RSS is Really Simple Syndication. Think of the RSS Feed File as mail, a Site Blog as a magazine, and a Full Blog as a newspaper. The postal worker delivers the mail and the newspaper carrier delivers the newspaper.
Mail is only delivered when there is mail to be delivered. Newspapers are delivered 7 days a week.
Think of RSS as the postal worker or newspaper carrier.
You can subscribe to a blog by clicking an orange RSS or XML button on that web site or blog. After you subscribe, the RSS Feed File, or blog, will be sent to your computer. An RSS Reader on your computer allows you to read the blog without having to go to directly to the web site or blog.
